Threat:   Neglect and Devaluation of Heritage Values         

Significance:

As moveable heritage, their significance is often of a social nature. Collections dedicated to special interest or technology have both historic and scientific significance.

Collections of objects important to local communities or special interest groups have evolved throughout the State. While some collections are well-housed, sometimes in a heritage listed building, the cost of upkeep is not always funded. Additional funding for display projects is not always available. Some collections remain in storage to keep them intact.  

Desired Outcome / Vision

Appropriate recognition of the importance of small collections is needed. Clearly understood and adequate channels of funding would avoid the loss or dispersal of collections if volunteer support diminishes.
