Queensland
Location: Petrie Terrace Police Depot, Brisbane
Threat: Neglect and Inappropriate Development

The former Petrie Terrace Police Depot is significant historically for its long association with penal and police activity in Brisbane, and is an important component of a precinct of penal, military and police buildings established from 1860.
The site contains important archeological elements including that of the first Brisbane Gaol, and is important for its association with the Queensland Police, demonstrating the evolution of work practices and the changing nature of the lifestyle associated with police force employment in a major urban centre
Designed by Public Works architect Raymond Clare Nowland in 1939, the building is a prominent landmark overlooking central Brisbane, and is an impressive presence in the Petrie Terrace streetscape.
Vacant since the early 1990s, the complex has become increasingly derelict over the decade, and with the rejection now of several inappropriate development proposal by the Heritage Council, it is time for the Brisbane City Council to ensure an appropriate adaptive re-use proposal for the complex is developed and implemented as soon as possible.
