OUR HERITAGE AT RISK - AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY - 2007
Place: Nil Desperandum
Threat: Neglect and Devaluation of Heritage Values

Significance:
Nil Desperandum, is the most intact example of a pisé vernacular building constructed by Hatcliff and Green and represents the style and materials of its type. Constructed in 1896, the building remains as a prime example of one of a disappearing typology. The building is highly valued by the Tidbinbilla Pioneers Association and descendants of former occupants.
Risk:
The homestead was extensively damage during the 2003 bushfires. However, despite some remedial work and a statement by the ACT Government that the homestead will be structurally secured and restored little has been done and further deterioration is occurring daily.
Desired outcome:
The National Trust strongly urges the ACT Government to consider renewing their conservation work to protect the remaining pisé and structural elements of the building. The aim of the work should be to restore the building exterior and interior in a manner conducive to the principles of the Burra Charter to a point where it can be reoccupied.
