Significance:

This Adelaide landmark is in the neo-classical style and comprises a five story office building on North Terrace with a great hall behind for Grand Lodge functions. The building is very intact, few alterations having been made since it was constructed in 1927. It is noted for the sophistication of its interiors.

Threat:

A development application has been received by the Adelaide City Council  to demolish the rear hall and construct a seventeen storey residential apartment building with three levels of basement car parking.

Action Required:

The building, including the office and the great hall behind it, is listed on the State Heritage Register. It is important that its significance be upheld, that the State Heritage listing not be adjusted to exclude the great hall, and the application to demolish the great hall be rejected.
