OUR HERITAGE AT RISK -  AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY - 2007

Place:    Cameron Offices

Threat:  Demolition and Devaluation of Heritage Values

Significance:

A major building complex by internationally renowned Australian architect John Andrews.  Built of concrete and glass it is an excellent example of brutalist architecture. Its low-rise rectangular form with intervening courtyards each with individual themes established a new design philosophy for off buildings which influenced Canberra’s planners.

 Risk:

The original complex consisted of nine parallel office wings running east west.  Two wings have already been demolished- five wings are under threat of demolition and the remaining two win are currently planned to be retained.

Desired outcome:

List all of the current building on the National Heritage list and manage appropriately.
