Place:    Newcastle Waters Township
Threat:   Ongoing neglect and lack of agreed conservation management plan

Significance:

The township, excised from Newcastle Waters Station, is the old droving hub on three tracks – Murranji, North-South  and the Barkly.  It has a number of heritage buildings within its boundaries and is visited by large numbers of people each year.

Threat:

The threat to this evocative place is quite simply demolition by neglect and distance.  The real cost of conservation work to the properties is very high and complicated even further by the isolation of Newcastle Waters.  There is no conservation management plan in place and any work undertaken on the buildings requires that tradesmen and other specialists must travel from the major centers in the Territory at huge costs.  The town may simply crumble away .
